A First Amendment forum on April 23 in Reno will feature a discussion on the right to freely criticize public officials and figures.

Here’s the announcement

In a polarized nation, is the strong standard set by New York Times v. Sullivan irrelevant? Should we reconsider the First Amendment right to criticize public officials and figures? Many wealthy and influential people, including Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, think so.

Join the 2019 Reynolds School of Journalism First Amendment Forum to consider this key issue for free speech and civic engagement. This free and open to the public event features Jane Kirtley, professor and director of the Silha Center for the Study of Media Ethics and Law at the University of Minnesota.

It will be held on April 23, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the Joe Crowley Student Union Theatre at the University of Nevada, Reno. Learn more on the First Amendment Forum event page.
