Sunshine Week starts Sunday

Sunshine Week, which runs March 11-17, is the annual event by the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.

They provide materials for Nevada Press Association members to use during the week, including cartoons, columns and logos, as well as ideas for story projects.

Also available is a an op-ed by NPA executive director Barry Smith for use in member publications and web sites.

On Monday, the NPA will join the ACLU of Nevada, Society of Professional Journalists Las Vegas chapter, UNLV College of Urban Affairs and Nevada Policy Research Institute for a panel discussion at 6 p.m. in the Greenspun Auditorium on the UNLV campus, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

It will be a wide-ranging look at the state of government transparency in Nevada, including public records, the open-meeting law, whistleblower protections and more to launch Sunshine Week.
