Mesquite Citizen Journal makes a comeback

With the demise of the Mesquite Local News, its former editor has revived her own online publication — the Mesquite Citizen Journal — to resume coverage of the southeast Nevada community.

“Some of you know that I first began the Mesquite Citizen Journal (MCJ) on July 1, 2011, as an online-only news source. I ceased operations on March 31, 2014 when my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died in June that year,” writes publisher-editor Barbara Ellestad in her welcome-back column.

“It’s interesting, spooky, freaky, and perhaps prophetic, that the MCJ begins again one day after and six years later on April 1, 2020.”

The Mesquite Local News was among the Battle Born Media publications that stopped or altered their print editions under financial strain exacerbated by COVID-19.

Ellestad, with her usual frankness, notes in the welcome-back column that money is no object for her resurrected newspaper because “we don’t have any.”

She did launch, however, with plenty of news.
