Dust settling from R-J sale

While the dust begins to settle over the purchase of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the best inside-the-newsroom story I’ve seen comes from Michael Calderone at HuffPost Media with his ‘How they did it’ story.

It shows the pure journalism ethic of Review-Journal reporters and editors who put their heads down and went after a story, then let the chips fall where they may.

It reminds me of my old college newspaper’s motto, ‘Tell the truth and don’t be afraid.’

On the other hand, perhaps the low point of the whole episode has been — not surprisingly — the boneheaded comments posted on the R-J’s web site below the stories about the sale to the Adelson family.

They remind me of the motto of another newspaper where I worked, the Durango Herald quoting William Allen White: “There are three things that no one can do to the entire satisfaction of anyone else: make love, poke the fire, and run a newspaper.”

The Review-Journal also has a good folo on reaction to the sale.
