Removing trees at Rinckel Mansion

For anybody wondering, the trees removed Friday afternoon from the front of the Rinckel Mansion (Reynolds Press Center) were an invasive species known as Tree of Heaven.

They have provided wonderful shade for my parking spot for the past nine years, but a month or so ago a big branch broke away and landed right where my car would have been had I been there that day.

The trees — there were three of them — were brittle, messy and grew like weeds. In fact, several small ones were dug up a few years ago next to the parking lot. And we constantly have to cut off the suckers.

So while I always hate to cut down a tree, these had to go. I never should have allowed them to get 25 feet tall.

Here’s a brief video of the crew from Healthy Trees in Carson City felling one of the smaller trees. Tom Henderson’s crew did an excellent job.
