I just want to add my condolences, on behalf of the Nevada Press Association, to the family of Ed Vogel, who worked alongside us here at the Press Center until his retirement and will be greatly missed.
Much already has been written about Ed’s career, from the well-written obituary by A.D. Hopkins in the Review-Journal to personal remembrances and tributes.
The photo above was taken by Cathleen Allison of Nevada Photo Source for Ed’s induction into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame in 2012. I like that it includes his bag full of notes and documents — his work, which was part of him.
Typical of Ed, he was more interested in getting other people recognized in the Hall of Fame. He submitted nominations almost every year.
When he was inducted in Las Vegas (in the video below), he says:
‘Thank you, everybody. There’s nothing important in life more than you family and your children. That’s all I’d like to say.’
It summed up Ed. Though he had many interests, and journalism was his passion, his family was his priority. While the ceremony was about him, his thoughts were about them.
With him at the induction were his brother Tracy and his daughter Annabelle, who took her first plane ride to be with him.
While I could see he was proud and grateful to be recognized, I also could see that he was most pleased by the fact his brother and daughter were there to be part of it.
