Full-time general assignment reporter for The Pahrump Valley Times & Times-Bonanza & Goldfield News

The Pahrump Valley Times & Times-Bonanza & Goldfield News is seeking to fill a full-time general assignment reporter to cover a variety of diverse beats. The reporter will write a variety of content for both publication’s print newspaper, website and social media channels that includes, but not limited to, investigations, features, profiles and breaking news. 

The reporter also has skills in shooting video, photography and a basic understanding of content management systems and be able to upload content to the website. The reporter will post content to the publication’s social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. 

The working hours for the position include days, nights, weekends and holidays. 

Basic responsibilities 

• Create written content that includes, but is not limited to, investigations, features, profiles and breaking news for various platforms, including electronic and print. 
• Gathering editorial information via phone, internet, working with Pahrump Valley Times and Times-Bonanza & Goldfield News staff, and for on-location assignments.
• Ensure content deadlines are met.
• Check all content for accuracy, following Pahrump Valley Times & Times-Bonanza & Goldfield News editorial standards.
• Edit content and upload all content to various platforms including but not limited to STN, Instagram, Facebook, using appropriate software.
• Keep abreast of national and local news/sports and social content.
• Produce and curate daily content uploads in a variety of content management systems.
• Work collaboratively with all members of the newsroom and other departments as required.

Requirements:

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• News writing following AP and Times-Bonanza & Goldfield News and Pahrump Valley Times standards.
• Ability to meet deadlines and be agile shooting video and photography in a field environment.
• Ability to build news contacts in the communities covered by the Pahrump Valley Times and the Times-Bonanza & Goldfield News.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate for breaking news and other special content opportunities. 
• Understanding of local and regional competition.
• Must be able to use, or learn, GPS, a content management system. 

Optional Requirements/Willing to Learn:

• Experience working with the following platforms
• Premiere, After Effects, or WordPress.
