March 3, 2015 Uncategorized 0

The revelation yesterday by the New York Times that Hillary Clinton used her personal email account to hide thousands of public records — that’s what they are, you know — won’t come as a surprise to open-government advocates who know public officials exploit this loophole every day. The news is …

I tried to cancel Alley Oop

March 2, 2015 Journalism, Nevada, Newspaper industry, Wabuska Mangler 1

Time in a bottle … and newspapers

February 20, 2015 Journalism, Newspaper industry 0

Earlier this week, officials in Baltimore opened a 200-year-old time capsule buried in a cornerstone of the city’s Washington Monument. Rather unremarkable, except … Inside the time capsule were some hand-blown bottles, a plaque and four newspapers. The newspapers, it was said, were in ‘remarkably good shape.’ In other words, …

February 18, 2015 Journalism, Open government 0

By Ken Paulson You can’t take freedom of speech for granted these days. The horrific murders of Charlie Hebdo cartoonists and other staff members in Paris and the threat of bombings at movie theaters for booking “The Interview” are jolting reminders that freedom of speech is often vulnerable. The two …

Tell the truth, photojournalists

February 18, 2015 Journalism, Newspaper industry 0

It’s about truth. And truth is hard. As many have pointed out, the question of how far photographers can go in altering their images has …

Nevada Press Association

The Nevada Press Association is the trade organization for non-broadcast news publications in the state of Nevada. It represents daily and weekly newspapers as well as online-only news organizations and magazines. The history of NPA dates back to 1865, when an association of Nevada newspapers was first organized. In 1924, the organization officially became the Nevada State Press Association after a journalism professor at the University of Nevada, Reno spearheaded a final reorganization campaign.

Our mission

NPA represents the interests of non-broadcast news organizations in Nevada. Our primary mission is to help foster open government and a vibrant press by advocating for strong public records, open meetings and public notice laws.
