Nancy Streets

Nancy Streets dedicated more than 40 years to community journalism, earning statewide respect for her innovation in advertising, leadership, and service to local newspapers. Her work strengthened the business side of newsrooms and brought essential content to readers in Sparks, Virginia City, and Elko.

She began her career at the Statesman Journal in Oregon before relocating to Nevada, where she became a key figure at the Sparks Tribune and its successful shopper, The Big Nickel. She later ran the Comstock Chronicle solo before serving as advertising director at the Elko Daily Free Press, producing award-winning publications like the Mining Quarterly, Real Estate Monthly, and Elko’s Visitor Guide.

Streets served over two decades on the Nevada Press Association board, including two terms as president and many years as treasurer. She helped preserve public notices, modernized online access, and expanded recognition for advertising professionals.

Through decades of dedication, creativity, and mentorship, Nancy Streets made a profound and lasting impact on Nevada journalism and earned her place in its Hall of Fame.
