2017 Nevada Press Association convention and awards banquet

Join us for a reception on Friday evening (Sept. 29) to open the 2017 Nevada Press Association convention in Carson City. It will be at the Press Center, 102 N. Curry St., also known as the Rinckel Mansion and home of the NPA.

On Saturday morning (Sept. 30), we’ll open with a general membership meeting to take care of association business and elect board members, also at the Press Center. Following that, we’ll host seminars, discussions and tours during the day.

Banquet at the Nugget

Saturday evening, the Better Newspaper Contest awards banquet will take place at the Carson Nugget, at 507 N. Carson St., in the second-floor ballroom.

Please reserve a spot for each event you plan to attend. Some, like the opening reception, are free. The banquet costs for the meal. Keep in mind, also, there is a $100 registration fee for each publication represented at the banquet or convention to help us cover our costs, so bring lots of folks.

Registration for the awards banquet closed on Sept. 12. Call us if you need to make changes. Sorry, the deadline for refunds as passed.

How to pay

After you’ve selected the events you’ll be attending (below), you will be directed to a ‘Pay’ screen where you can select the method. For credit cards or debit cards, select PayPal.

The next screen asks you to log into a PayPal account, or select the option to pay by credit or debit card.

Of course, you may also request an invoice, write a check or call us at 775-885-0866 with a credit card number.

There are no physical tickets. You’ll get confirmation of your order, and you will be registered for the event. Sorry, we cannot provide refunds for any cancellations less than 7 days before the event.

Saturday, Sept. 30

8 a.m. — Continental breakfast.
8:30 a.m. — General membership. meeting.
9:45 a.m. — Legislative review.
11 a.m. — “Borrasca — Tales from Nevada’s Newspaper Hall of Fame.”
Noon — Lunch on your own in downtown Carson City.
1:30 p.m. — Brendan Riley: “Lower Georgia Street — California’s Forgotten Barbary Coast.”
2:30 p.m. — Nevada State Museum tour.

Carson Nugget, 2nd floor
6 p.m. — No-host bar.
6:30 p.m — Awards banquet and Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Description:

The Donald W. Reynolds Press Center, 102 N. Curry St., Carson City, Nevada, is also known as the Rinckel Mansion.

It houses the offices of the Nevada Press Association, Las Vegas Review-Journal, Associated Press, Nevada Photo Source and other tenants.

The 1874 Victorian mansion, a block west of the Nevada capitol, was built by Mathias Rinckel, a businessman who supplied the Comstock with beef and pork.
