Tom Gardner, former AP reporter in Reno, dies at 73

We were very sorry to hear of the death of Tom Gardner, longtime Associated Press reporter in Reno, who had been living at a long-term care facility in Yerington in recent months after a years-long battle with cancer.

No services are planned. Here’s a link to a short obituary in the Reno Gazette-Journal.

As his colleagues noted, Tom was a steady hand at the AP bureau and the go-to guy for stories about the weather, NASCAR and country music. Of course, he covered all sorts of news during his decades in Reno, after a stint as broadcast editor for AP in his home state of Ohio.
