Check out the first installment of Media Life’s new series “Reinventing the American Newspaper.”
“This series is based on several notions held by Media Life’s editors from years of covering newspapers,” according to the introduction. “The series will explore and test these notions over the coming months, and they are certainly all open to challenge, as in any discussion.”
Among the notions is No. 7, “Editorial matters a whole lot. The newspaper industry has largely forgotten that.”
As someone with an editorial background, I think it’s obvious to readers when a newspaper has made the commitment to dig into local news and when it is just skating along.
